Archive Converters

Compress, extract, and convert container archives and packages.

Archive & Compression Formats: ZIP, 7Z & TAR

How archive containers bundle folders, deduplicate files, and protect data integrity.

Private by Design

Files are processed locally in your browser with WebAssembly and HTML5 APIs. They never leave your device, so there are no server uploads or third-party file storage.

No Queues. No Speed Caps.

Start converting immediately on your own device - no upload wait, no download queue, and no throttling by a remote server.

Free, Unlimited Access

Use every available tool without creating an account, paying for a plan, or hitting an artificial file-size limit. Convert as often as your browser and device can handle.

Technical Specifications & Codec Breakdown

ZIP vs. 7Z: Compatibility vs. Extreme Compression

ZIP is built into Windows, macOS, Android, and Linux - double-click and it opens instantly without installing third-party apps. 7Z uses the advanced LZMA2 algorithm, shrinking big files (like software builds and game assets) 20% to 50% smaller than standard ZIP.

Why Linux Systems Use TAR.GZ

Standard ZIP files often lose Unix user permissions and symlinks. The TAR utility bundles multiple files and folder permissions into one continuous stream, and GZIP then compresses that stream, making .tar.gz the standard for server backups and Linux packages.

Already-Compressed Files Won't Shrink

Attempting to zip MP4 videos, JPEG photos, or MP3 music will barely reduce file size (often by less than 1%) because those files are already heavily compressed. Archiving them is still useful for bundling hundreds of files into a single download link.
